Our pre-school Literacy Focus Group started in 2002 and has been going from strength to strength. The group meet for half an hour on Thursday and Friday mornings and participating in a range of activities. The aim is to increase the pupil confidence in reading and spelling by equipping them with valuable skills that can be applied across all subject areas.

We spend a lot of time throughout the year focusing on specific spelling strategies such as; look, say, cover, write, check, and syllable work. These methods prove very useful when we hold our annual ‘Spelling Challenge’.  Students efforts are rewarded with treats including our Big Breakfast, trips to the cinema, the Grand Opera House and outdoor activity days.
